초록

The purpose of this paper is to clarify the educational interests of Japanese and the characteristics of articles on colonies and Joseon education by paying attention to educational magazines published in Japan during the modern period. To this end, I examined the publication status and research trends of educational magazines published from the Meiji period to the Showa period, the types and characteristics of magazines published, and how these magazines imaged colonies and Joseon education. The following contents became clear through this. First, researches on educational magazines has been conducted on annual publication lists, table of contents of magazines, and facsimile edition of the original magazine, and based on this, studies that analyze the contents of magazines in earnest have been activated. Second, there were about 1.300 educational magazines published during this period, and these magazines were subdivided by topic, target, grade, and subject, reflecting the changes of the times, and commercial and colonial magazines related to examinations were also published. Third, there were relatively few articles on colonies and Joseon education among these magazines. At that time, interest in Japan was focused on domestic educational issues, and interest in overseas educational trends was also directed to Western education in the United States, the Britain, and Germany rather than colonies. Fourth, educational magazines that published articles on colonies and Joseon were divided into magazines that focused on acquiring the legitimacy of colonial educational domination and those that Koreans actively use to acquire social status. The former assumed the reader as a passive being, while the latter presupposed the reader’s active intervention. However, these educational magazines were responsible for allowing readers to tacitly accept the colonial system itself because the room for revealing national identity was blocked from the beginning.
