The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of bone mineral density and eating disorder in ballet dancers. 123 dancers (37 arts high school students, 48 university students and 38 professional dancers) were participated in this study. The tendency of eating disorder observed by eating disorder inventory questionnaire(Garner, 2004). Bone mineral density was measured by Quantitative Ultrasonography(QUS), and participants were classified as normal (T-score > -0.99) and osteopenia (T-score between -0.1 and -2.5) following WHO guidelines. Statistical analysis in Frequency analysis, Reliability analysis, Factor analysis(varimax), Analysis of Covariance(ANCOVA), were performed with adjustment of age, weight, career, regular or irregular of menstrual period, and age at menarche. All statistical procedures were performed by SPSS(Ver 12.0) windows. There were significant differences on body shape control, and self control between normal and osteopenia (p<.05), but there were no significant differences on emotional control, diet control, the concept of life, the relationship, responsibility for family, and satisfaction for myself between two groups. In conclusion, bone mineral density may be partly affected on eating disorder in ballet dancers.
