This paper discusses the work Gogeumgagok and its inferred year of compilation. Gogeumgagok has recently had attention due to its authentic classification of lyrics, but its exact year of compilation is yet to be clearly known. The year of gabsin is written at the end of the book. This has been interpreted by some as 1764, while others assume it to be 1824. In this paper, I suggest using the time periods stated in the words in the lyrics. Vowel rounding and palatalization are linguistic characteristics that developed through the 18th century. These linguistic aspects will be examined, in addition to some words that present clear chronological changes, such as nabi/nabwi and gamagwoe/gamagwi. In other literature of the time, dyota was dominant until the mid-18th century, but it slowly changed into jyota beginning in the late-18th century. Thus, the overwhelmingly high ratio of dyota in Gogeumgagok is a clear sign that the year of gabsin indicates the compilation date of the book to be 1764. On the basis of the methodologies mentioned above, I made efforts to solve the question on the time period Gogeumgagok was compiled. From various linguistic evidences, the year of gabsin is inferred as 1764. This conclusion could be more established when the cultural aspects included in this book are considered with regard to the time period.
