The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of family-friendly organizational culture of social welfare agencies on social workers’ burnout. Also, it aims to verify if there are differences depending on the gender and the type of organization, public or private, through the mediating effect of work-life balance. Seven hundred sixteen social workers, serving for public and private organizations in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do province, and Incheon, participated in this study. Structural equation model and multi-group analysis were used to analyze the data. The analysis showed 2 results. First, family-friendly organizational culture did not directly influence social workers’ burnout. Second, work-life balance only played a mediating role in the influence of family-friendly organizational culture on social workers’ burnout. In addition, the result of multi-group analysis showed that the gender and the type of organization do not have any direct effect on the social workers’ burnout. Therefore, this study suggests that the higher the family-friendly organizational culture there is in an organization, the better work-life balance there will be for social workers. As an result, this enables social workers burn out to decrease. In other words, it is meaningful that the effect of organizational culture turns out to be significant regardless of the difference of the gender, and the type of organization.
