This article was written for the purpose of diagnosing the current status of drum(‘buk’) items included in the Encyclopedia of Korean Culture, Encyclopedia of Korean Folk Culture, Encyclopedia of Korean Music , which can also be viewed online, and estimating their direction. The system and contents of each item were analyzed by extracting 158 items registered in three types of dictionary: category, definition, name, form, structure, playing method, performance, performer, material, and production of drum. For the accuracy and explanation of information, the consistency, balance, and efficiency of the applied standards were reviewed, and some opinions were presented based on this. First, among the 158 titles, the proportion of terms related to name, performance, and performance theme was high, while the proportion of titles related to the shape, structure, material, and production of the drum was significantly low. A balanced item placement is required to meet the key factors applied to the instrument item description. Second, there was a difference in the recognition of the categories and definitions of the drums according to the dictionary, and the wide field of view covering the entire drum and restrictions on the categories of drums to be recorded in advance were insufficient. As a result, there are not many errors in the content, so it is necessary to clarify the scope and limit in the dictionary definition of drum. Third, as various nicknames of drums handed down from civilians among the names of names were registered as headwords without filtration, overlapping meanings or confusion could not be avoided. For example, there are drums with the same name but different shapes, and there are drums with the different shape and same names. In addition, there are many types of drums with similar pronunciation, and more complex names are created when drum names are connected to performers and performers, so systematic arrangement of these problems is urgent. Fourth, as for the shape of the drum, there are attempts to suggest differences in the shape according to the court, folk song, and genre, but the classification of the shape according to the use of the drum should be approached in a delicate way considering the background and perspective of its transmission. Fifth, in the case of folk drums, there are many names depending on the region. In addition, when this term is combined with performers and performers, expandability increases, and various pseudonyms are reported in the field research process. In the three dictionaries, the notation of the field report was registered as a heading without filtering, so duplication and confusion could not be avoided. Therefore, in the related items of the music dictionaries to be planned in the future, categories and definitions, and classification of systems and types based on them, should be preceded. The types of drums are 1) classification according to the shape of the resonance boxes(barrel type, hourglass type, frame type), 2) classification according to the production method (nail drum, string drum, wedge drum), 3) classification according to the playing method (tapping type) / shaking type), and with regard to performance, 1) whether to use a frame or string necessary for performance, 2) whether to use a stick and hand, Relevance to performance (dance/play/ensemble/accompaniment/specific playing method) needs to be expanded to areas other than folklore to resolve the information imbalance. It is expected that the discussion raised in this thesis will lead to a follow-up study that can contribute to the creation of drum-related items in the future music dictionary.
