This study explores the relationship between politicians' derogatory incivil remarks and their portrayal by mediatization. More specifically, it examines how such remarks as a political strategy are represented through the media. For this purpose, various data were collected. It examines the intentions behind these remarks, how they are reflected in the media, and the reactions on social media, particularly on YouTube. In other words, the study seeks to understand not only how derogatory incivil remarks are mediatizated and distributed through the media but also how they are transformed by it. To achieve this, various methods were employed to collect and analyze data, including interviews with two staff members who work closely with politicians in the National Assembly, topic analysis of news media reports on such remarks, and comment analysis on YouTube videos. The findings of the study reveal several points. First, politicians' the incivil remarks are made with the intention of benefiting themselves or their affiliated parties, keeping in mind that these remarks will be reported by the media. Notably, the frequency of such remarks among first-term and re-elected legislators suggests an intent to demonstrate loyalty to their party and achieve personal gains through media exposure, with most of these remarks taking the form of personal attacks. Second, media coverage of these remarks often focuses on the sensational and contentious aspects of inter-party conflicts, rather than on expanding political support, thereby intensifying the provocativeness of the remarks and amplifying the polarized dynamics between parties. The media tends to emphasize the sensationalism of the remarks rather than providing context or background. Third, the comments on YouTube videos related to these political conflicts often exhibit cynicism, bordering on mockery and ridicule. This playful approach by highly engaged political audiences contributes to normalizing such provocative remarks as routine political behavior, effectively creating an exclusive "league of their own" among politicians.
