초록
The purpose of this study is to qualitatively explore the learning experience and educational effects experienced by two-year college students through the preparation of reflection journals in liberal arts classes. To this end, 10 university students who were enrolled in community classes at two-year universities in the Seoul metropolitan area were selected as research participants. In order to experience the students’ process of writing a reflection diary, the researcher requested a total of 12 reflection journals classes from Week 2 to Week 14 excluding the midterm exam period. To confirm what the participants experienced, after the results were confirmed following the completion of the lectures, in-depth interviews were conducted with 10 participants and data were collected. The results of the study are as follows. First, the preparation of reflection journals contributed to cultivating students’ ability to organize and express their thoughts, developing deep understanding, and expanding their thoughts. Second, students explored their thoughts and values and understood themselves better through self-reflection. Third, reflection journals helped to support autonomous learning and develop self-directed learning strategies. Fourth, it increased learning efficiency and provided a sense of psychological stability. Fifth, difficulties in the process of adapting to new learning methods provided students with opportunities for growth. In conclusion, we confirmed that the reflection diary is an effective learning tool that improves not only learning ability but also various other abilities such as self-awareness and self-directedness. In order to maximize the effectiveness of writing a reflection diary, systematic guidance, and various topics are provided, sufficient time is secured, and a positive atmosphere is created. This study present the potential of the use of reflection journal writing used in the educational field, and more research should be conducted in the future to reveal the effectiveness of reflection journal writing in depth and find ways to apply it to various educational environments.
