This study explores how choreographers construct and realize meaning in their works by analyzing the semiotic characteristics of Wang Mei's modern dance work <Thunder and Rain> to understand the bond between the chor eographer as the creator, the dancers as the expressors, and the audience. The details and meaning conveyed by the work were interpreted using Peirce's triadic principle of signs and sign relations, respectively. As a result, Firstly, icons represent each meaningful scene, indexes are signs that express the meaning of icons by connecting them with specific object, and symbol are interpretative representations of icons. Secondly, the meaningful symbols appearing in the work facilitate the progression of the narrative, introducing interpretative elements based on the relationships between the subjects. Thirdly, the symbols develop the titles of each act, guiding the connection be tween sections through emotional cues. This study uses semiotics to analyze choreography and how higher-level meaning is implied and expressed in works of dance, providing a more in-depth understanding of the meaning in herent in these works.
