The purposes of this paper are to review the proliferation situation of the benefit-sharing system, a representative win-win growth system in Korea and to suggest hypotheses on the preconditions for the adoption of the system and related implications with consideration of the Japanese vertical Keiretsu system. This research at first reviews existing researches related to the benefit-sharing system while discussing the characteristics of this article, and examines the proliferation situation and limitations of the benefit sharing system in Korea. In addition, it reviews the experiences of Japanese firms and derives hypotheses on the preconditions for the system adoption utilizing two concepts, the domestic growth potential of product and the characteristics of product architecture in the core company of a supply chain system. According to the hypotheses, the benefit sharing system is effective when the growth potential of product is high and the product architecture is integral. Based on the hypotheses, this paper suggests the following implications. As to the core firm and its suppliers, it emphasizes that they had better selectively adopt the benefit sharing system considering the growth potential of product and the product architecture. As to the government, it underscores implications such as improving the operational effectiveness of the benefit-sharing system particularly facilitating voluntary participation of firms, executing selectively the proliferation of the system and its application in evaluating the win-win growth activities of firms considering the situation of industries and firms, and developing open-type benefit-sharing models which are appropriate under network-type industry structures. Finally, it suggests future research topics related to this study.
