The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effects of maladaptive cognitive emotional regulation on the relationship between perceived parental psychological control and aggression among middle school students. Study participants were 424 students enrolled in middle schools located in Seoul and Daegu in South Korea. The results are as follows. First, parental psychological control was positively correlated with both the sub-factors of maladaptive cognitive emotional regulation(i.e., self-blame, other-blame, rumination, and catastrophizing) and aggression. Also, the sub-factors of maladaptive cognitive emotional regulation(i.e., self-blame, other-blame, rumination, and catastrophizing) were positively correlated with aggression. Second, the sub-factors of maladaptive cognitive emotional regulation(i.e., other-blame and catastrophizing) had partial mediating effects on the relationship between parental psychological control and aggression. Implications and suggestions for future research are addressed.
