The Constitutional Research Society(Heonjeong-yeon-gu-hoe) is an organization formed in 1905 by Christianity, Donghak, and reformed Confucian scholars in order to overcome the crisis of national sovereignty through transformation into a constitutional government. Until now, researches on the Constitutional Research Society were conducted in terms of the history of the Self-reliance Movement leading to the Korean Self-reliance Society(Daehanjagang-hoe) and the Korean Association(Daehan-hyup-hoe). However, This study proved that the reform-oriented Confucian scholar groupe was a major force and a key force from the time of formation to the anti-Japanese struggle just before dissolution through the analysis of participants of the Constitutional Research Society. The Confucian scholars of the Constitutional Research Society are divided into two categories according to their background, activity, and orientation. Yoon Hyo-jung, the management team and leader, aimed at reforming the state led by the monarch (or elite) based on the model of the Meiji Restoration in Japan. On the other hand, members of the council, Lee Ki and Hong Pil-ju, successors of Silhak's democratic reformism, moved to the government office after the Donghak Revolution and the Gabo Reform, and participated in the drafting and implementation of reform policies. In the sense that they and the network of reform Confucian scholars in Seoul combined to fight for nullification of the Japan-Korea Treaty of 1905 at the later Constitutional Research Society, it is essential to conduct an in-depth study on the Confucian forces in the Constitutional Research Society.
