초록

It is the purpose of this paper to argue that it is a better choice in Korean phonology to handlethe n-insertion and sai-siot phenomena in terms of the a template satisfactionto be proposed. When a wide range of Korean data is examined, it appears thatthere is a complementarity of those two phenomena and an acceptable theorymust be capable of handling it simply and perspicuously. The explanation forthis complementarity is provided within the purview of the constraint interaction,providing we make one crucial assumption: The morphology-phonology interfaceprojects compound boundary onto the phonological representation, and theinserted n and sai-siot should be the physical manifestation of that compoundboundary. It will be shown that either of those two phenomena are attestedin diverse complementary environments and the compound boundary plays apivotal role in the form of a template satisfaction.
