한국 성년례에 참여한 외국인 유학생의 인식 및 만족도에 대한 연구

초록

This study aimed to develop and implement a Korean coming-of-age ceremony as an extracurricular program for international students and to explore its educational applicability by analyzing participantsʼ perceptions and satisfaction. To this end, the meanings and procedures of the traditional Korean coming-of-age ceremony were reviewed by experts, and the model was reconstructed to reflect international studentsʼ linguistic and cultural backgrounds, as well as their university context. The program was conducted with 18 female students enrolled in a department dedicated to international students at S University on Coming-of-Age Day in May 2025. The ceremony consisted of an opening declaration, participant entrance, name clarification, pledges, oath and declaration signing, tea ceremony, naming ritual, congratulatory address, host remarks, participant responses, a closing declaration, a celebratory performance, and commemorative photography. The results showed that participants perceived the congratulatory address and participant responses as the most meaningful procedures of the ceremony. They also reported high satisfaction with Korean etiquette, program operation, and the experience of wearing hanbok. Open-ended responses yielded three categories: acceptance of adulthood, communal celebration and recognition, and the possibility for expanding K-culture.
