The purpose of this study is to examine the historical characteristics and formative changes of the Qipao that appeared in the Qing Dynasty and continued to the present day, and to examine the persistence and implications inherent in the Qipao. The historical scope of this study is limited to the 1950s, with a focus on morphological changes from the early 20th century to the 1950s. The analysis of the Qipao’s presence in modern fashion focuses on the Paris and Milan collections from 2011 to 2020. Chapter 3 provides a detailed discussion on the classification of Qipao sleeves, historical transitions, and decorative knots, along with the results of the province’s Confucianism. The findings of the analysis are summarized as follows: The Qipao was an official garment that reflects the trajectory of Chinese historical culture, the lifestyle of each period, and evolving aesthetic standards. By incorporating elements of traditional Chinese clothing, the Qipao mirrors both the everyday lives and aesthetic values of its time, while also symbolizing women's ideological liberation and progressive awareness across various historical contexts. As a traditional garment representing the Chinese people, the Qipao can remain relevant in global fashion only by embracing ongoing external influences without compromising its cultural roots. The term "Guochao" (国潮), a compound of ‘Guo’ (nation) and ‘Chao’ (trend), has recently gained popularity in China. The Qipao, as part of this movement, embodies both Chinese identity and modern fashion sensibilities. Driven by the Guochao craze in recent years, the Qipao has reemerged as a fashionable item, blending retro elegance with contemporary style. Today, the Qipao stands as a fusion of tradition and modernity, East and West, and this study is meaningful in re-examining its historical trajectory and cultural significance.
