This study was conducted on 213 university students from across the country to examine the mediating effect of cognitive emotion regulation moderated by unconditional self-acceptance on the effects of childhood interpersonal trauma experience on social anxiety. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 26.0 to check the correlation between each variable. Additionally, the mediating effect, moderating effect, and moderated mediating effect were analyzed sequentially using Process Macro. At each step, the significance was tested by means of bootstrapping. The results showed that there were significant correlations between childhood interpersonal trauma experience, cognitive emotional regulation, social anxiety, and unconditional self-acceptance. In addition, the mediating effect of cognitive emotional regulation moderated by unconditional self-acceptance on the relationship between childhood interpersonal trauma experience and social anxiety was found. This study suggests that the use of adaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies is important in mitigating and preventing social anxiety symptoms in university students, and that increasing levels of unconditional self-acceptance may also be effective.
