This research paper is a case study of sharing educational experiences about how classic humanities could cultivate students’ reading, discussing, and writing abilities in the university’s compulsory liberal arts education. With a subject of “Introspection on Women”, utilizing Virginia Wolf’s “A Room of Own” as a text, this research was conducted for three weeks’ educational module. In the first step, students were allowed to critically read one of proposed texts of “A Room of Own” and introspect the meaning in order to understand the text correctly. In the second step, based on the theme of classics, idea sharing process was progressed by searching and critical thinking about women-related issues of our society. In the third step, by demonstrative writings, students were allowed to express about what they want to contend. Throughout this educational process, this study could find following implications. First, this research could find students’ female consciousness was deepened throughout the reading and idea sharing process about a book which has a subject of women. Not just confined to reading a classic, by connecting it with social issues and by writing about debate contents discussed in a public place, they could be deeply aware of women problems. Second, this research also could find fusion and convergence of various texts are important for students to expand the scope of their thinking. While analyzing classics, by utilizing MIE and NIE such as movies, video clips of intellectual’s library, novel and poem, and newspapers about the subject, there were synergy effects of learning by stimulating the scope of their thinking in various points of view. Third, considering university’s educational purpose of fostering women leaders, this research found that a closely connected curriculum with communication education is needed to be prepared for cultivating students’ leadership capabilities. Considering social demand, in reality, pragmatic curriculums have been newly opened and humanities courses have been consolidated on the contrary, the thinking and expression education based upon humanistic classics will be continuously important as an intrinsic value of university’s liberal education. Because classics, as texts, have own important values for students can let them find crucial questions and cultivate the scope of their critical thinking and insights. Among a plenty of classics, in order to choose a proper text and prepare an effective education process for the learners, applicable educational models should be further developed based upon future class design.
