초록

This study investigated the individual and sequential mediating effects of covert narcissism (CN) and post-event rumination (PR) on the relationship between childhood emotional trauma (CET) and social interaction anxiety (SIA) in early adulthood. Data from a total of 396 men and women aged 18 to 35 were analyzed, and the main findings were as follows. First, CET significantly and directly predicted SIA, even after controlling for demographic variables and the mediators. Second, CET significantly predicted SIA through CN, but not through PR alone. Third, CET significantly predicted SIA through the sequential mediation of CN and PR. These findings suggest that individuals who reported higher levels of emotional trauma in relationships with significant others during childhood, who consequently exhibit greater vulnerability in self-worth and excessive dependence on external validation, and who engage more strongly in negative post-event rumination in social situations are more likely to experience heightened anxiety across various social interaction contexts in early adulthood. The clinical implications, limitations of the study, and directions for future research are discussed.
