초록

The EU strongly supports the Six-Party Talks. Though not a participant, the EU follows this process closely, and believes that resolving the North Korean nuclear issue would open the door to closer relations between North Korea and Europe. Furthermore, the EU was participating in the KEDO and as a global actor the EU strongly supported the inter-Korean reconciliation process and international efforts to promote peace and maintain stability on the Korean Peninsula. Hence, reviewing EU-DPRK relations since the 4th Six-Party Talks took place in Beijing, where North Korea declared abandonment of the nuclear program, is this very significant and important to construct peace and denuclearization on the Korean peninsula. This paper aims to focus on the background of EU`s involvement with North Korea and the future of EU-DPRK relations. Moreover this paper examines what role would be played by the EU in the process of implementing the six-party joint statement.
