The purpose of this study is to develop a career exploration program for third-country-born children of North Korean defectors and to determine its effects on their career decision-making self-efficacy and career decision-making level. Accordingly, the career exploration program in this study was developed through four stages: planning, organization, implementation, and evaluation for seven sessions. For the objective effectiveness evaluation before and after the program, the experimental group, 10 students enrolled in the alternative school for North Korean refugee youth in S city, who participated in the program for 50 minutes once a week, and the control group, 9 students from the same school who did not participate in the program, were selected. Then, for the quantitative analysis, the results of the career decision self-efficacy and career decision-making level tests administered before and after the program were analyzed using SPSS 25.0 program. First, the Mann-whitney method was used for quantitative analysis to verify pre-homogeneity between groups, and the Wilcoxon Matched Pairs Signed Rank Test was used to compare pre- and post-tests by group. Next, the subjective effectiveness evaluation was implemented by the post-program satisfaction evaluation, review statements by session, and semi-structured open-ended interviews. The results of the quantitative analysis showed that only the experimental group showed significant improvements in career decision-making self-efficacy as a whole and some of its sub-factors. Next, the mean scores of the experimental group increased in some subfactors, although not statistically significant for the level of career decision-making. On the other hand, the qualitative analysis revealed that the experiences of the program's effectiveness and career-related constructs were derived to four domains and seven central concepts. Thus, the career exploration program for third-country-born children of North Korean defectors developed in this study is significant in that it used Chinese translation and interpretation in consideration of language and cultural barriers, utilized various career mentoring, and proved its effectiveness in a mixed-methods study despite most of the sessions were conducted non-face-to-face during the coronavirus situation. Finally, the limitations and suggestions for further studies were discussed by synthesizing the relevant findings.
