초록

This study compares and analyzes the vocabulary from translation of Chinese characters that appears in the Textbook of “Jungdeongmangukjiji”(1902), a world geography textbook officially compiled by the undergraduate curriculum and the Textbook of “Chugakubannkokuchisi”(1896), a Japanese translation version during the Modern Enlightenment Period (1894-1910), to comprehensively examine the current state of use and acceptance issues of modern Chinese character translations. This study conducted a basic survey of the two books and a comparative analysis of individual vocabulary from translation of Chinese Characters, and selected vocabulary from translation of Chinese Characters that were influenced by Japanese notation during the translation process of “Chugakubannkokuchisi” to “Jungdeongmangukjiji”, and the vocabulary newly created from translation of Chinese Characters, to examine the characteristics and changes seen in vocabulary from translation of Chinese Characters during the modern enlightenment period.
