The purpose of this study was two-fold: to explore the preconditions for hiring new child protection workers to be recruited on October, 2020, based on the national action plan entitled “Children’s Policy of Inclusive Korea” and to examine the workers’ roles that are needed to properly operate the child protection systems. A total of six focus group interviews were utilized to 44 workers in charge of child protection from the public and private sectors. The analyses generated three categories (“preconditions in adopting the child protection worker system,” “major tasks of child protection workers,” “anticipated obstacles when launching the system”) and 13 sub-categories. Based on the findings, we discussed policy implications of successfully adopting the new child protection worker system, such as preparing a detailed manual, recruiting skilled workers, offering favorable working conditions, developing a training system, and providing professionally appropriate supervision.
