초록

This study investigated a moderated mediation model with (1) perceived stigma as a predictor of depression and anxiety in foster children, (2) self-esteem as a mediator, and (3) social support as a moderator. For this purpose, data from the 2020 Foster Care Children Panel Study were used, with the final analysis including 273 foster children. The key findings are as follows: First, self-esteem significantly mediated the relationship between perceived stigma and depression/anxiety among foster children. Second, social support significantly moderated the relationship between perceived stigma and self-esteem. Third, a moderated mediation effect was confirmed in the pathway from perceived stigma to depression/anxiety through self-esteem, indicating that higher levels of social support decreased the impact of perceived stigma on depression and anxiety via self-esteem. Based on these results, policy and practice implications are discussed.
