Purpose: This qualitative case study aimed to explore the career experiences of youth from migrant backgrounds by examining three post-secondary career pathways: higher education enrollment, workforce entry, and career preparation. Design/methodology/data/approach: Twenty youth from diverse migrant backgrounds, including multicultural families, immigrant youth, and refugees, participated in in-depth interviews. Data were analyzed through individual, relational, and socio-structural dimensions to understand the characteristics of their career experiences. Findings/Results: The findings showed that the career experiences of youth from migrant backgrounds were shaped by individual, relational, and socio-structural factors. Career challenges varied across pathways, while support from teachers and community organizations played an important role. The study also highlighted the diversity of migrant youth in migration history, legal status, family resources, and career trajectories. Value: By offering an integrated, multi-level analytical perspective, this research advances theoretical understandings of non-linear post-secondary transitions among marginalized and heterogeneous migrant student populations.
