초록
This study investigates the use of generative AI tools in university-level design education and explores their educational implications. A total of 86 students from two women’s universities in the Seoul metropolitan area participated in a survey and in-depth interviews. The research focused on their experiences with AI tools such as ChatGPT and their perceptions of how these tools affected their creative process. Results show that students mainly used AI during idea development and concept visualization stages. They reported benefits such as enhanced creativity, faster workflow, and increased efficiency. However, concerns were also raised about limitations in expression, overreliance on tools, and ethical issues like authorship and copyright. Instructors viewed generative AI as a potential tool for innovation but stressed the importance of process-based evaluation to ensure academic integrity. While the study provides useful insights, the findings are limited due to the specific sample of female design students. Further research with a more diverse population is recommended. Overall, generative AI has the potential to support creativity and critical thinking in design education when used with clear pedagogical goals.
