The royal tombs of Goguryeo during the Pyongyang capital period are located in the vicinity of Pyongyang. The so-called Tomb of King Dongmyeong is identified as the tomb of King Jangsu; the Gyeongshin-ri Tomb No. 1 as the tomb of King Munjamyeong; the Topo-ri Great Tomb as the tomb of King Anwon; the Honam-ri Tomb of the Four Deities as the tomb of King Yangwon; the Gangseo Great Tomb as the tomb of King Pyeongwon; the Gangseo Middle Tomb as the tomb of King Yeongyang; and the Gangseo Small Tomb as the tomb of King Daeyang. In addition, Tomb No. 1 at the so-called Tomb of King Dongmyeong site appears to be the tomb of King Anjang, and Tomb No. 4 at the same site seems to be the tomb of Joda, while the Tomb of King Yeongnyu is presumed to be one among the medium- or small-sized tombs, rather than of royal-tomb scale. These royal tombs also reveal the orientations of royal authority at the time. For instance, the Tomb of King Jangsu (the so-called Tomb of King Dongmyeong) is situated to the south of the Daedong River; the Tomb of King Munjamyeong (Gyeongshin-ri Tomb No. 1) is of the largest scale; the Tomb of King Anjang (Tomb No. 1 at the so-called Tomb of King Dongmyeong site) occupies a location distinct from other royal tombs; the Tomb of King Anwon (Topo-ri Great Tomb) and the Tomb of King Yangwon (Honam-ri Tomb of the Four Deities) are located in close proximity; the Tomb of King Pyeongwon (Gangseo Great Tomb) differs from earlier royal tombs in scale, location, surrounding environment, and subsidiary tombs; and this tendency continued with the Tombs of Kings Yeongyang and Daeyang (Gangseo Middle and Small Tombs).
