초록
The purpose of this study was to classify clusters based on professional identity and self-care among psychological counselors and to examine differences in burnout across the identified cluster types. To achieve this aim, data were collected from 280 counselors currently engaged in counseling practice, and analyses were conducted using SPSS 27.0. The results of the study are as follows. First, significant correlations were found among the study variables. Second, cluster analyses were conducted separately for novice and experienced counselors based on their levels of professional identity and self-care, resulting in the identification and classification of four clusters for each group. Third, differences in overall burnout and its subcomponents were examined according to these clusters. Among novice counselors, the order of overall burnout levels was identified as follows: ‘Unestablished Identity Type,’ ‘Inadequate Self-Care Type,’ ‘Professional Development-Oriented Type,’ and ‘Established Professional Type.’ For experienced counselors, the order was: ‘Vulnerable Self-Care Type,’ ‘Unestablished Professional Identity Type,’ ‘Self-Care Development-Oriented Type,’ and ‘Integrated and Stable Self Type.’ This study holds significance in that it comprehensively examines the influence of the interaction between professional identity and self-care-two internal personal characteristics of psychological counselors-on both overall burnout and its subcomponents. Through this, the study contributes to a deeper and more multidimensional understanding of the factors influencing counselor burnout.
