초록

In order to promote the development of the piano ensemble, this study analyzed <For Songs for Four Hands> by Korean composer Soonmee Khang and made piano pedagogical suggestions on it. Composed in 2012 and premiered in 2013, this piece is a suite for one piano four hands based on two children’s songs, one jazz standard, and one Korean folk song. When studying this composition, students may learn the followings: first, piano techniques such as rotation, legato, ornaments, voicing; second, sense of rhythm and beat through Charleston rhythm and Jangdan, which is Korean traditional rhythmic cycle; third, musical expression by playing the melody lyrically and accompanying figures that creates certain sound effects, as well as dynamic expressions; fourth various musical styles by understanding the original songs; and last, educational benefits of piano ensemble. It is expected that this study would contribute to the development of the piano ensemble genre.
