This study aimed to lay the groundwork for developing a Social Interest Scale by constructing initial items based on previous studies and existing measures. Whereas prior research has often addressed social interest in a limited way—focusing on specific dimensions or partial characteristics—we conceptualized it more comprehensively by identifying four sub-factors: connectedness, contribution, social optimism, and altruistic concern. Based on these dimensions, 107 preliminary items were generated and their theoretical coherence was examined through a Delphi survey with a panel of 10 experts. In addition, the content validity ratio (CVR) and coefficient of variation (CV) were calculated for each item to assess their relevance and stability. As a result, 42 items were retained. We sought to address the conceptual limitations of previous measures and provide a systematic foundation for developing a valid and reliable tool for assessing social interest.
