초록
This paper analyzes the impact of asymmetrical warfare tools used by North Korea such as cyber and drone threats and identifies better ways to counter those threats, using the concepts of PMESII and DIME. “PMESII” refers to politics, military, economy, society, information and infrastructure, and allows researchers to examine the issue from wider and more diverse perspectives. This study concludes that using PMESII helps overcome the weakness of single-factor analysis and provides a holistic perspective that establishes which variable is more appropriate than others. “DIME” – diplomacy, information, military and economy – is also useful in establishing that military power alone cannot solve a security dilemma. This study concludes that diplomatic, economic, and information capabilities are needed to enhance South Korea’s military power and it is vital to increase our own counterforce capability by using new ICT including AI, big data, and small satellites. Achieving the “Transparency Revolution” will increase South Korean deterrence capabilities against asymmetric warfare tactics.
