A Study on the Mediating Effects of Work Engagement in the Relations between Calling and Job Satisfaction among Counselors

This study was conducted to examine the understanding and necessity of the function of counselors from the point of view of the positive psychology. Especially this study tried to examine the relationship among the each variables setting up as work engagement that affects on job satisfaction and counselor’s calling which imply the purpose and the meaning of life and make them feel full in their work personally and expand the sense of fullness to devote themselves to society. The subjects were 244 counselors in diverse provinces including Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The data were analyzed by Pearson correlation to test relations among three variables and by SEM to verify the mediating effects of work engagement in the relations between counselor’s calling and job satisfaction. The results are as follows. First, counselor’s calling, work engagement and job satisfaction had small but significant positive correlation each others. Second, the complete mediating effect of work engagement was shown in the relations between counselor’s calling and job satisfaction. On the base of results, implications for research and limits of this studies were discussed.
