초록

SF not only reflects the perception of a changing world, but also functions to represent the changing sensitivity of that world. Focusing on that point, this study examined the function of SF in the genre fusion phenomenon by anayzing the best SF Webtoon Award winners, <Royal concubine Attack> and <Rendezvous>. <Royal concubine Attack> makes unrealistic situations such as possession by a spirit, regression, and reincarnation commonly used in romance genre into virtual reality games that are familiar and can be realized with more technology. On the other hand, Quantum computer technology creates NPC and their world as if it were real, and the virtual reality leads to the illusion that love between NPC and humans is achieved while existing independently of the human world. <Rendezvous> rationalizes the mysterious superpowers of the Munchkin character, which are mainly used in action fantasy, as artificial intelligence elements. It also imagines artificial intelligence as being independent and superior to humans, not subordinate to humans like aliens, and creates the illusion that artificial intelligence can create, destroy, and dominate everything in the world like a god. In short, in webtoons, science fiction is fused with fantasy genres to rationalize fantasy, magicize science, and popularize fantasy and science. This is a problem that requires more in-depth explanation in terms of the philosophical world view and platform capitalism, but above all, it suggests that readers’ sensitivity is changing in an era when technological science overwhelms reality. The exploration of this will be supplemented in subsequent studies.
