초록

The purpose of this study is to illustrate the main characteristics of the Nine Leaves Group, especially focusing on three poets such as Zheng Min 鄭敏 (1920- ), Mu Dan 穆旦 (1918-1977), and Hang Yuehe 杭約赫 (1917-1995). Two important socio-political factors brought about this poetic group are the anti-Japanese war on the one hand and the growth of Chinese cities on the other.Despite the sweeping tide of the prosaic and slogan like poems in the war, three poets' literary world seem to be more subjective and keenly sensible of the encompassed suffering. To express their suffering and frustration is the process of delving themselves into their "self." At the same time, they consciously manipulate the self and attempt to expose their "self" in the poem to be irrational and even inconsistent. This emphasizing of the "self" marks the beginning of a modernist tendency, the beginning of a self-reflexive and more complicated understanding toward the identity of modern man. This study contains three parts, together with introduction and conclusion. Part One explores the unique poetic qualities of Zheng Min's poetry through her meditative observation and prevailing sufferings. Part Two examines Mu Dan's poems through his deep sense of despair for a life. Part Three analyzes the characteristics of Hang Yuehe's poems through his criticism on Chinese big cities.
