This study investigates the sequential mediating roles of perfectionistic self-presentation and ambivalence over emotional expressiveness in the relationship between insecure adult attachment and social anxiety among university students. A sample of 348 undergraduate students from four-year universities nationwide was assessed using validated measures. Correlational analyses revealed that anxious attachment, avoidant attachment, perfectionistic self-presentation, ambivalence over emotional expressiveness, and social anxiety were significantly and positively interrelated. Structural equation modeling further demonstrated that perfectionistic self-presentation and ambivalence over emotional expressiveness sequentially mediated the associations between both dimensions of insecure attachment(i.e., anxious and avoidant) and social anxiety. These findings underscore the importance of addressing maladaptive self-presentation and conflicted emotional expression in therapeutic interventions targeting social anxiety, particularly among individuals exhibiting insecure attachment patterns.
