초록
This paper examines Che Guevara, a spoken drama staged in Beijing in April 2000. My special interest is in the social circumstances of the production of Che Guevara, its main themes, receptions and repercussions. Since the Reformation and Open‐door Policy, the gap between the rich and poor has widened and the social inequality and corruption have also aggravated in Chinese society. By projecting Chinese yearning for a reformed society and humanity to the protagonist Che Guevara, this drama openly criticizes the deep‐rooted pathological phenomenon in Chinese society. Due to its outspoken and strong themes, when it was played, Che Guevara had considerable repercussions, opening up many issues for discussion. In this sense, it was a cultural barometer that reflected the reality of Chinese society in 2000.
