초록
This study examined the effects of a school-based group art therapy program on emotional intelligence and school adjustment in first-grade elementary school children using a pre–post design. The participants were 51 first-grade students in a Neulbom school program in S city. The program was conducted once a week (80 minutes per session) over 20 sessions from March to July 2024. Data were analyzed using paired-samples t-tests with SPSS 28.0. The results showed significant improvements in overall emotional intelligence, particularly in emotional expression, empathy, and emotional regulation, with large effect sizes. School adjustment also improved significantly across relationships with teachers, peers, academic engagement, and school rules. These findings suggest that a curriculum-based group art therapy program can effectively enhance emotional intelligence and school adjustment in young children. Based on the findings, the implications and limitations of this study were discussed.
