This study examined the effects of the exposure to malicious online comments and psychosocial factors on posting malicious online comments amongst adolescents. The subjects of this study comprised 238 middle school students in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The collected data were analyzed by correlation analysis, Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests, two-way ANOVA and multiple regression analysis. Our results were as follows. Firstly, posting malicious online comments by middle school students was significantly higher in exposure to malicious online comments through SNS than through portal sites. Secondly, higher scores of relational aggression, impulsivity, and sensation seeking amongst middle school students significantly predicted more frequent posting of malicious comments. Thirdly, there was no interactional effect between the exposure to malicious online comments and psychosocial factors. This study explored possible variables that may influence the posting of malicious online comments and specifically verified their effectiveness.
