초록

Junghee Moon, who made her debut as a poet in 1969 through Monthly Literature, has attracted public attention for her vivid writing. She is known for her works that capture broad spectra of human life such as longing, love, life, nature, freedom, and inequalities. What underlies her works are feministic movements to provide proper prospects to various women's issues within social ironies. She attempts to make the society understand common interests of oppressed women thoroughly and systematically, with the purpose of eradicating the attitude which standardizes and generalizes social experiences and cognitions. Moon also actively communicates her ideologies as a feminist; she starts from the insight and the will to establish social conscience and recognition of legitimate differences and distinct characteristics of women and continues on to overthrow gender oppression and discrimination. Finally, Moon proposes a directing point for achieving gender equality. This paper examines Moon's poetical works, primarily "For Man," as well as her ecofeministic works. The essence of masculinity and feminity in Moon's poems are utterly natural; her bold voice not only sings of devastating situations of discriminated women but also expresses softness and vitality of women's nature. Unlike former feministic works, she respects rustic, lively masculinity as well and seeks for respectful coexistence among men and women. Through contemplation on women, men, and the nature that are explored in her ecofeministic poems, the artist suggests precisely contemporary issues rooting from capitalism and patriarchy. Moon indicates that conceptual, mental, and practical exertion to overcome ecologic crisis will also achieve the gender equality. In Moon's assertion, women has positive power of self-affirmation; they recognize their biological nature as natural human essence. Moon finds such essential power of women from their primeval nature. Human beings defines the nature as subject of regulation; civilized societies had emasculated untamed human, naming them barbarians. Moon expresses that these distorted phenomena are originating from oblivion, one of natural essence of human beings. Moon insists that women and men had been granted equal rights and qualifications before artificial customs and institutions intervened, and that such healthy, primeval life is the closest to the human nature. Rebuking of impotent and diminutive masculinity in Moon's poem "Again For Man" is understood as longing for basic human and the nature before gender separation. However, she also says that some feminist also holds responsibility for extinction of such wild-natured man, for they degraded and weakened men's masculinity. Unordinarily, women stand as the assailant rather than victim. Moon does not ignore the possibility for men to be victims of ideologies; she finds commonness in wild masculinity and premieral feminity. Conclusively, Moon suggests that gender-equal society in which men and women form one unified community is the essential to peacefully maintain the ecological chain.
