초록

This study is the summarization of the initial researches aiming to start more in-depth studies based on the collected data studied by Korean and Chinese scholars in diverse areas. So far, the existing researches have mainly focused on the introduction, spread, translation, and publication of Chinese novels, by Korean literature world in Korea, Chinese literature world in Korea, and even Chinese scholars, based on the data of various Chinese novels introduced in the Joseon Dynasty. Moreover, this data includes not only the criticism on Chinese novels, but also the criticism on Korean ancient novels. However, this study aimed to segmentalize the contents of such enormous data. Targeting only Chinese novels mentioned in the early years(15th-16th century) before Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592 and the Manchu invasion of Korea in 1636, getting out of the later years of the Joseon Dynasty, mainly grabbing attention of the existing researches, the contents mentioning Chinese novels were only included in the research scope. Such research scope and methods have verified that on top of cognizing the fiction of novels, scholars started recognizing the effective value of novels to edify people and also another value to read novels for personal hobby or interest in the early Joseon Dynasty even though the quantity of data of the time is very limited. Therefore, such reference and criticism on Chinese novels in the early Joseon Dynasty would be an important data connecting the contexts and researches of the criticism on Chinese novels in the later Joseon Dynasty.
