The purpose of this study is to analyze the visitors’ emotion based on the Pluchik’s Wheel of Emotions to determine what emotion the visitors viewing the museum art exhibition experience, and to examine the structure of meaning of the visitors’ emotion. Accordingly, this study aims to provide the basic information on the visitor’s personal context suitable to the exhibition planning and evaluation. As a result of the analysis, total 8 constituents and 34 sub-constituents were derived from the statement by visitors who viewing the exhibition; there was the empirical difference in each constituents depending on the demographic characteristics between subjects. In the derived constituents and subconstituents, the meaning of the subject's emotion appears in one integrated structure with uniqueness according to the demographic characteristics of each research subject which is not diluted, and each emotional dimension were interacting with each other. The structure of visitors’ emotion was suggested based on the interactions and interrelation between these constituents and sub-constituents, and the visitor’s emotion statement, and these meanings were discussed with regard to the museum exhibition planning. The results of this study indicates the visitors’ aesthetic experience shows different emotional change depending on various exhibition elements, and indicates the emotion following the experience in viewing the art exhibition can change a lot depending on the individual characteristics of visitors. This study is the research on the visitors, and it is an exploratory research which qualitatively analyzed the emotion of visitors who viewing the museum exhibition through the in-depth interview with them on the basis of the socio-psychological theory, Also, it can be used as an alternative of the visitor satisfaction survey by confirming that the emotion of visitors viewing the exhibition has a significant effects on the overall evaluation of the exhibition, and it can be used to contribute to presenting the direction in planning of the exhibition as well.
