Objectives: The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of demographic characteristics, the ability to purchase independent housing, family interaction, parental and child residential independence, and life satisfaction on the intention to marry, in relation to the overall quality of life improvement for unmarried youth. Method: The data used in this study was taken from the '2021 Youth Socio-Economic Survey' conducted by the Korea Youth Policy Institute, and the analysis was conducted on 664 unmarried male and female wage workers aged 25-34. SPSS 25.0 and R 4.2.2 were used to analyze the factors affecting the intention to marry. Results: Firstly, upon examining the overall trends of demographic characteristics, the intention to marry, the ability to purchase independent housing, family interaction, parental and child residential independence, and life satisfaction among unmarried youth, there were significant differences in education, monthly income, non-face-to-face family interaction, and life satisfaction in health, depending on gender. Secondly, unmarried male youth showed differences in the ability to purchase independent housing and life satisfaction related to 'standard of living, health, overall safety, the neighborhood environment in which I live, and my overall life' depending on the degree of their intention to marry. Unmarried female youth showed differences in the frequency of non-face-to-face family interaction and life satisfaction related to overall safety, depending on the degree of their intention to marry. Thirdly, when hierarchically inputting the variables that influence the intention to marry among unmarried youth, unmarried male youth showed significant differences in the intention to marry depending on age, monthly income, the ability to purchase independent housing, parental and child residential independence, overall safety, and life satisfaction regarding the neighborhood environment. In the case of unmarried female youth, there were significant differences in the intention to marry depending on the ability to purchase independent housing and the frequency of non-face-to-face family interaction. Conclusions: The significance of this study lies in examining the differences in characteristics according to the degree of intention to marry, alongside the gender of unmarried youth. It revealed that an individual's ability to purchase housing and the residential independence of parents and children, life satisfaction, and quality of life are among the important factors that affect the intention to marry.
