The Job Value Perceived by College Students and Analysis of the Impact on Career Decision Level: Focusing on the Mediating Effect of Job Image and the Moderating Effect of Social Support

The purpose of this study is to examine how job values perceived by university students preparing for employment affect their level of career decision-making. The university period is critical for individuals to understand themselves as adults, form proper values, and gain experiences that significantly influence career decisions. Based on previous studies, a model was designed to show how job values influence career decision levels. Job image mediates the relationship between the two variables, and social support moderates it. A survey targeted university students aged 20 or older preparing for employment in the Seoul metropolitan area, Chungcheong region, Yeongnam region, and Honam region. Out of 325 questionnaires, 249 were used for analysis after excluding non-responses and insincere responses. The study results showed that job values significantly directly impact career decision-making through job image. On the other hand, there was no moderating effect of social support on the influence of job image on the level of career decision-making. It was also confirmed that job image does not mediate the impact of job values on career decision-making. These findings suggest that job values and job image influence career decision-making among university students preparing for employment. Therefore, it is recommended as a policy implication to enhance the ability to choose a career based on information search, aptitude, and interest.
