초록
The purpose of this paper is to review recent controversial issues on a triarchic theory of successful intelligence proposed by R. Sternberg and offer several future tasks for the validation of the theory. The paper is largely divided into three parts. The first part of paper deals with controversies on construct validation of triarchic abilities (analytical, creative, and practical abilities) that comprise the triarchic theory. Three relationships are discussed: (1) Relationships between triarchic abilities and other measures of intelligence; (2) Relationships between triarchic abilities and academic achievements; (3) Relationships among triarchic abilities. It is argued that the g theory explains the results obtained by Sternberg and his colleagues better than the triarchic theory. The second part of paper presents controversies on theoretical and empirical case of practical intelligence. Relationships between practical intelligence and academic intelligence, issues of developmental trajectory and generality of practical intelligence are discussed. The third part concludes with some suggestions for future research tasks on the triarchic theory.
