초록

The purpose of this study is to systemize the strategies and the ends of the structural expressions in the contemporary architectural designs. This explains the characteristics, the aspects, and the strategies of the structural expressions. Through the analyses of the contemporary important structural designs, the aspects of structural expressions are classified into five categories ; the unconstrained form and structural system, space structure and program, structural aesthetics and symbols, structural material and materiality, integrative structure and superficial borders. These categories are applied to the framework for the analysis of the elements of the structural expressions. The results of this analysis can be drawn into the diagram. This diagram visualizes the strategies in design processes of structural expressions, which consist of aesthetical expression strategy, structural expression strategy, and morphological expression strategy. Each strategy has detailed strategies and those are grouped into the hierarchial three steps. Finally, this diagram of structural expression system explains the correlations among the detailed strategies and the design process of the structural expressions. Through this system, architects can set up the design process and strategy at the beginning step of the architectural project.
