초록

This study diagnoses the challenges faced by adolescents in the era of digital transformation—such as identity confusion, emotional numbness, and weakened critical judgment—and proposes a narrative-based digital citizenship education model as a pedagogical solution. To this end, it explores the pedagogical potential of cross-reading between Western classics, Frankenstein and Brave New World, and Korean classics, The Tale of Hong Gildong and The Nine Cloud Dream. The narrative imagination embedded in these literary texts becomes a valuable educational resource for cultivating the core competencies of digital citizenship: critical thinking, empathy, and ethical responsibility. First, Frankenstein addresses the consequences of unethical science and the suffering of marginalized beings, revealing issues of identity and responsibility. Second, Brave New World critiques a society governed by pleasure and control, raising questions about the depth of emotion and the restoration of human freedom. These two works complement each other by illuminating the erosion of humanity in technological civilizations and provide essential insights for ethics education in the digital age. Third, The Tale of Hong Gildong emphasizes justice for social minorities and the formation of communities, while The Nine Cloud Dream offers a path to digital identity education through reflections on desire, selfhood, and the ethics of discipline. This cross-reading and interpretation of classical literature encourages adolescents to reflect on the conditions of being human and nurtures their ability to practice empathy and communal ethics even in digital environments. The study seeks to expand the scope of literary education beyond technology-driven discourses, arguing that narrative-based humanistic reflection is a vital path to cultivating responsible digital citizens.
