Recently, empathy has been attracting attention as an ability that citizens should have as well as the ability of individuals to understand others. Empathy can play an important role in understanding differences and diversity, eliminating inequality, and realizing social justice. From this point of view, empathy needs to be presented as an important goal and content in social studies education. First, it is necessary to confirm how much empathy occupies social studies education. In this study, we analyzed the empathy-related content that appears in the curriculum documents through the social studies curriculum. As a result, it was found that there was a lack of mention of empathy in elementary, middle and high school curriculum. Most empathy references were stated at a comprehensive and superficial level. In the future, in the social studies curriculum, content related to empathy needs to be presented with greater importance. And it needs to be presented specifically.
