초록

The purpose of the current study was to investigate the relationship between body mass index(BMI), bone density(BD), menstruation period and eating disorder among college dance-major students. Total two hundred twenty two female students (ballet, 27.0%; Korean Traditional dance, 33.8%; modern dance 39.2%) were recruited in the current study. BMI was calculated with height and weight assessed, BD was assessed with ultrasonography, and eating disorder was assessed with questionnaire. In statistical analysis, frequency, correlation, one way ANOVA, linear regression were employed. Korean traditional dancer had higher value of BMI and BD as compared to ballet and modern dancer. However, there was no significant difference in eating disorder across dance major. Among ballet students, there was significant correlation between body shape dissatisfaction, diet control and BMI. Among Korean traditional dance students, excessive eating habit, body shape dissatisfaction and BMI, and between diet control and BD. Among modern dance students, there was significant correlation between excessive eating habit, body shape dissatisfaction and BMI. In addition BMI was accounted for body shape dissatisfaction, dance major and excessive eating habit, and BD was accounted for dance major. In conclusion, the current study suggests that the perception of healthy body weight is required for dance major females.
