A Study on African Women Entrepreneurship and Societal Issues toward Women Doing Business

It is well recognized that entrepreneurship contributes to national economy via economic value creation and employment rate increase. Women entrepreneurship has its importance specially in developing economy for its economic development and poverty alleviation. In Africa, many women who are doing business out of necessity suffer from society’s negative attitudes toward women doing business. However, despite of this, increasing number of women in Africa are engaged in opportunity driven entrepreneurship and are running successful businesses. The most important aspect of this is that they are great rele model for other African women. This study reviews ILO report on women entrepreneurship in three African countries, and tries to forward potential measures to transform the negative attitude toward women in business into positive one. This study suggests four success factors model for women entrepreneurship.
