The purpose of this study is to understand what kind of parenting difficulties mothers of early childhood children of the Enneagram's head type experience and to develop a substantive theory to provide basic data for parent education. Accordingly, the research question is, ‘What kind of parenting difficulties do mothers of children with head type infants experience?’ For this study, data were collected through at least three in-depth interviews with five mothers of children with the Enneagram head type in infancy, lasting 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours per person. Data analysis was conducted using the grounded theory research method in open coding, axial coding, and selective coding and the construction of a paradigm model, process analysis, and core categories were conducted using the 11 categories derived. The main research results are as follows. In the paradigm model, the central phenomenon of ‘falling into repetitive parenting situations’ emerged. The process analysis of child-rearing difficulties went through three stages: negotiation stage after the emergence of the central phenomenon, synergy stage, and solution model construction stage, and resulted in the belief that the mother is the center of child decision support and parenting for the future. Lastly, the core category was composed of ‘relying on reason, constructing alternative methods, and being the center of parenting rather than being a slave to parenting.’ The results of this study are significant in that they provided basic data to be used in parent education and search for practical parenting methods to resolve the parenting difficulties of Enneagram head-centered mothers.
