The following study explores and analyzes the effectiveness of a developing music therapy program that is aimed at working with the regulation of emotion in children. In this study, the stability of the decrease of negative emotion and the enhancement of cognitive and behavior dimensions were adequately judged as adaptive emotion regulation. The effectiveness of the program was tested with five year old children (n=74). The developed music activity program was applied to the experimental group while another emotion regulation educational program using fairy tale books was applied to the comparative group. The experiment lasted 16 weeks with 32 sessions. The results revealed that the experimental group had significantly higher scores in emotion regulation scores and also had a decrease in negative emotions (eg. anxiety, depression, and aggression) compared to the comparative group. Therefore, the music therapy program for children was found to be effective in enhancing children’s emotion regulation and decreasing negative emotions when compared to another emotion regulation educational program.
