Metal-organic framework (MOF)-based nanomaterials have attracted significant attention as active elements in electro-chemical sensors. Although some progress has been made in the preparation of pure MOF electrodes, their low sensi-tivities render electrochemical glucose sensing difficult. Accordingly, in this study, a novel concept of incorporating a benzoic acid (BA)-based supporting linker into a Ni-based MOF (Ni-MOF) was proposed to achieve highly sensitive non-enzymatic glucose sensors. Addition of the BA-based supporting linker enhanced the ratio of the high oxidation state of Ni, thereby increasing the number of active sites for glucose detection. Introduction of 10 wt% BA linker into Ni-MOF resulted in Ni-MOF-10 with excellent sensitivity and selectivity over a wide glucose concentration range of 0.5–2 mM, with a linear correlation coefficient of 0.9997. Furthermore, Ni-MOF-based three-electrode configurations were screen-printed on plastic substrates to fabricate flexible and non-enzymatic glucose sensors. The handcrafted device demonstrated potential as an electrochemical sensor for glucose detection. Thus, the proposed Ni-MOF is a viable candidate for the construction of wearable glucose sensors on plastic.
